Project start and launch of the planning process

Sub step 5: Planning the sanitation project

Development of a workplan: An agreement should be reached with regards to the planing of the tasks to be carried out during the entire duration of the project, but especially for the first half year/year of the project. Members of the sanitation team should be assigned different activities and leaders should be selected. This will lead to a smooth running and proper coordination of the project, as each member will be responsible for different tasks and activities, thus ensuring active participation of all.

A continuous review of the worplan is necessary, for example every three months.

Creation of a preliminary financial plan: Another issue to be considered is the creation of a preliminary financial plan, with regards to all the costs that might or will be incurred while carrying out the activities related to the project. These costs could include the cost of working space (project office) and equipment (tables, chairs, computer, printer, office material,…), travel costs/transport, organising meetings, seminars and other awareness raising activities; cost of consulting experts if necessary; costs that could be incurred during dissemination activities; as well as all other direct or indirect costs.

Creation of a preliminary plan for reuse: right from the beginning of the project it is essential to start thinking about the sanitation products and their reuse in agricultural fields. The initiating workshop as well as the stakeholder analysis will allow to identify individual farmers or cooperatives interested on applying the products in their fields. The agricultural extentionists will play a key role in designing a preliminary plan for the reuse, not only raising the awareness of farmers but also determining the crop requirements and the application patterns.
